Applejack is arguably the original American spirit. It was first produced in colonial New Jersey in 1698 by William Laird. His great-grandson, Robert Laird, served in the Continental Army and incorporated Laird's Distillery in 1790 - which holds the title as the oldest licensed distillery in the US. Although applejack was replaced by spirits that were cheaper to produce, such as rum and whiskey, it has held an integral position in American history and has been beloved by at least 4 consequential presidents. After the war, George Washington had taken such a liking to applejack that he wrote a letter to Robert Laird requesting the recipe so he could make his own estate applejack. Applejack was also the spirit that Abraham Lincoln regularly  served during his brief stint as a tavern operator, Franklin Roosevelt required his Manhattans to be made with applejack instead of whiskey, and Lyndon Johnson presented Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin with a case of apple brandy when they met in 1967. Our Applejack is distilled from 100% fermented apples and aged in toasted American oak for over 4 years.
